This Hunger Action Month we want to encourage you to get proactive in the fight against hunger in Florida. With 2.2 million individuals experiencing hunger across the state, there is no shortage of need for support and hunger relief. The Feeding Florida network of food banks offers you plenty of opportunities to help in your local community. With support from volunteers and generous donors, our network is able to further our reach into Florida’s 67 counties and provide relief to those who need us the most.

The Feeding Florida network is unlike any other hunger organization in the state. With 12 network member food banks and over 2,400 partner agencies, we are the only network that serves all 67 Florida counties year-round.

Rural communities make up 63% of all communities in the U.S., which is why the Feeding Florida network is dedicated to reaching all communities throughout Florida’s 67 counties, not just the more suburban areas.

This hurricane season, we’re taking a closer look at our partnerships with disaster relief organizations and showing you how we deploy emergency relief supplies across the state at a moment’s notice

June is here, and the season of hurricane preparation is once again upon us. Until this year’s hurricane season ends on Nov. 30, Floridians should be taking a note from past experiences and preparing early.

Food insecurity is not only detrimental to individual health, development, and well-being, but is crippling the progress of communities across our state and society. Tackling the issue of food insecurity in our communities is not only the moral and ethical thing to do. It also addresses the economic and social impact it has on our communities and our state today and for the future.

For kids who count on school meal programs to stay healthy, summer vacation could mean three months of worry and hunger. One in five children in Florida may be experiencing hunger, a problem that is only intensified when school is out.

Our Feeding Florida Network supports strengthening summer feeding programs through Child Nutrition Reauthorization, because the only meal these kids might receive is during school, thanks to numerous school feeding programs.

At Feeding Florida, we believe hunger is a symptom of an under-resourced household. This is why we strive to increase food access and provide tools to help strengthen our families and individuals so they can get back on their feet. As a network and with the help of strategic partners, we aim to equip Floridians with the skills needed to access critical resources and support their household.

Feeding America, the nation’s largest domestic hunger-relief organization, celebrated its network members at the organization’s annual conference last week. Feeding Florida was honored for their outstanding work during the conference’s “Network Celebrations.”
