This month we are highlighting Feeding Northeast Florida and the incredible work they’re doing to strengthen communities across Northeast and North Central Florida. From providing nutritious meals to families and seniors to expanding access in rural communities and preparing for disasters before they happen, Feeding Northeast Florida is committed to ensuring neighbors have the resources they need to thrive.

Serving 12 counties across the region, the food bank uses food as a catalyst to nourish lives, strengthen communities, and create hope for the future. Through innovative programs, dedicated volunteers, and strong community partnerships, Feeding Northeast Florida is helping build a healthier and more resilient Florida every day.

Meet Feeding Northeast Florida

As the youngest food bank in the Feeding Florida network, Feeding Northeast Florida has quickly become one of the fastest-growing members of the Feeding America network, now serving more than 310,000 neighbors throughout Northeast and North Central Florida.

That impact is made possible through the dedication of more than 95 employees, 14,000 volunteers, and over 400 agency partners who work together to ensure families, seniors, veterans, and children have access to nutritious food. In 2025 alone, the organization distributed more than 38 million pounds of food, providing over 101,000 meals every day to neighbors experiencing food insecurity.

Beyond emergency food assistance, Feeding Northeast Florida takes a holistic approach rooted in nourishment, education, health, and community engagement. From afterschool and summer meal programs for children to healthy lifestyle education, senior programs, and support for military families, the food bank is committed to addressing both immediate needs and long-term well-being.

Expanding Access Through Bread of the Mighty

One of the unique ways Feeding Northeast Florida serves its expansive region is through Bread of the Mighty, a branch of the food bank that connects families experiencing hunger with nutritious food across Alachua, Gilchrist, Levy, and Union counties.

By maintaining a strong presence in these rural communities, Bread of the Mighty helps overcome many of the transportation and access barriers that often exist outside larger metropolitan areas. Working alongside more than 130 agency partners, the team distributes thousands of pounds of food every day to communities stretching from Cedar Key to Hawthorne, Lake Butler to Micanopy, and everywhere in between.

The program’s mission extends beyond feeding neighbors. By rescuing food that might otherwise go to waste and redirecting it into local communities, Bread of the Mighty supports families, seniors, veterans, and children while helping reduce food waste throughout the region.

Every delivery represents more than a meal—it represents hope. By ensuring neighbors have consistent access to nutritious food, Bread of the Mighty is helping children succeed in school, adults remain productive in the workforce, and families build stronger futures together.

Ready When Communities Need Them Most

Whether responding to a hurricane, a government shutdown, or another unexpected crisis, Feeding Northeast Florida stands ready to serve whenever disaster strikes.

As the regional hub for emergency food supplies, the organization maintains stocked shelves filled with water, shelf-stable foods, and other essential items so they can respond quickly when families need help most. Their fleet of trucks remains fueled and prepared for deployment, while backup generators ensure refrigerators and freezers continue operating during power outages so fresh food can continue reaching neighbors without interruption.

While their primary focus is serving the 12 counties across Northeast and North Central Florida, Feeding Northeast Florida has also mobilized to support disaster relief efforts in communities as far away as Tampa Bay and Georgia, demonstrating the power of collaboration across the Feeding Florida network.

Because hunger doesn’t stop during a disaster—and neither does Feeding Northeast Florida.
